Scores of medical students of the Kakatiya Medical College today condemned the decision of the local police to invoke various sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the accused in PG medical student Dr Preethi's suicide attempt case, Dr Saif.
They boycotted all out-patient services at MGM Hospital in protest against the police decision, barring emergency services. They also served a strike notice on the superintendent of the hospital.
They later staged a protest in front of the hospital and raised slogans against the authorities concerned. They also displayed placards demanding the immediate withdrawal of the sections of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act against Saif.
Speaking on the occasion, the medical students alleged that false news was being spread by the authorities concerned in the incident of the attempt to suicide by Preethi.
They asked how the police could book a criminal case against Saif on the basis of the news spread on the social media. They said that it was very common in the field of medical education for juniors to be reprimanded by seniors.
They also demanded that the police withdraw all the charges against Saif.
