The Warangal police today arrested the main accused in the suicide attempt case of Kakatiya Medical College PG medical student Dr Preethi.
The accused was identified as Dr Saif, a senior PG medical student of the same college.
Revealing the details of the case at a press conference, the city Commissioner of Police Ranganath said that Saif had harassed Preethi by repeatedly targeting her and also insulting her in front of others.
Preethi was a clever student, and sensitive, too, and Saif had spoken about her in an insulting manner in front of others many times, the CP said.
He said that Preethi had questioned Saif about a message posted by him on a Whatsapp group on February 18, and telling him that it was not correct on his part to talk about her in a public Whatsapp group.
She had also told him to bring any issue about her to the notice of the heads of the departments of the college instead of insulting her in public.
Saif could not digest the fact that Preeti had questioned him, and tried to continue to dominate her, Ranganath said. Preethi had spoken about the repeated insults, heckling and harassment by Saif to her friends in chatting sessions, including telling them that Saif regularly said that she had no brain.
The CP said that any student feeling any such insult would come under the purview of ragging, and that they had arrested Saif based on the available evidence.
The CP denied news reports that attempts were being made to dilute the case, and said that such false reports would have an impact on the investigation of the case.
