Doctor's Shooting: Shooter Dr. Shashi Kumar Kills Himself

The shooting incident in Himayatnagar where a doctor was shot at by another doctor in a parked car on Monday evening, took a new turn with the alleged shooter Dr Shashi Kumar killing himself in a farmhouse at Moinabad in the Ranga Reddy district later.

According to the police, Dr Uday Kumar, Dr Shashi Kumar (deceased) and Dr Sai Kumar had jointly floated Laurel Hospital at Madhapur two years ago. Following some financial disputes, the three doctors met in Himayatnagar to sort out the problems. A heated argument reportedly ensued between Dr Uday Kumar and Dr Shashi Kumar in the parked Volkswagen in which they were talking, and in a fit of temper, Dr Shashi Kumar allegedly shot Dr Uday Kumar from behind, and the bullet grazed through the victim's head. Later, the injured Dr Uday Kumar got himself admitted to the Apollo Hospital at Hyderguda. His condition is stated to be stable.

Meanwhile, Dr Shashi Kumar's friend, one Chandrakala, turned up before the Narayanguda police on Tuesday morning and stated that Dr Shashi Kumar came to her residence on Monday evening and requested her to take him to her Moinabad farmhouse as he was under deep mental pressure. Chandrakala said that she had taken Dr Shashi Kumar in her car to the farmhouse and left him there instructing the watchman, one Shankaraiah, to look after him. She said that Dr Shashi Kumar called her at about 10 pm and spoke with her for about ten minutes, and suddenly disconnected the phone saying that he was committing suicide. Chandrakala said that she immediately alerted the Panjagutta police and rushed to the farmhouse along with them, and found Dr Shashi Kumar dead by then.

Meanwhile, the family members of Dr Shashi Kumar expressed serious doubts about the suicide theory. The deceased's wife Kranthi alleged that her husband's business partners Dr Uday Kumar and Dr Sai Kumar had gotten him murdered.

The only eyewitness in the Monday firing incident Dr Sai Kumar, who is in custody in the Narayanguda police station, said that Dr Shashi Kumar shot at Dr Uday Kumar and himself.

The police visited the farmhouse at Moinabad and recovered a suicide note, a sickle and a hacksaw from the scene. In the suicide note, Dr Shashi Kumar stated that he along with Dr Uday Kumar and Dr Sai Kumar had started Laurel Hospital in which he had invested a huge amount, and that he was later sidelined and cheated by his partners.

He further stated that he did not kill Dr Uday Kumar, and that it was Dr. Sai Kumar who did it, leading the police to believe that Dr. Shashi Kumar may not have been aware that Dr Uday Kumar did not die.

His partners alone were responsible for his death, Dr. Shashi Kumar said.

Dr Shashi Kumar's body was shifted to a hospital for a post mortem.
