The Congress today held a massive "Maha Dharna" at Indira Park in the city.
The program was held in protest against "the increasing number of attacks" against the dalits and women of the state.
AICC secretary S A Sampath Kumar, former minister J Geetha Reddy, Mahila Congress state president Nerella Sharada, SC Cell state president Preetham and other party leaders took part in the dharna.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumar claimed that the Congress was the only party in the country which had protected the interests of the dalits of the women of the state and the country.
He said that it was very saddening for the party that a situation had come where a protest was needed demanding justice for the women and the dalits of Telangana. The dalits and the women of the state had struggled a lot for statehood for the region, and this was not what they had fought for, he said. He called upon all the dalits and the women to strive hard to unseat K Chandrashekar Rao's family from power.
He also alleged that the atrocities against the women and the dalits had risen all cross the country after the NDA government had come into power.
Geetha Reddy also spoke at the event, and called upon the sub-communities of the SC community - malas and madigas - to unite on one platform and teach a lesson to the CM of the state. She alleged that KCR had diluted the SC sub-plan introduced by the previous Congress government of united AP, doing grave injustice to the community.
