Child Trafficking: Dattatreya For Inter-State Meet
Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya has expressed shock at thousands of children being exploited as labourers in the Hyderabad bangle-making industry.
Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya has expressed shock over the fact that thousands of children were being exploited as labourers in the Hyderabad bangle-making industry.
"This is totally unacceptable. The recent raids conducted by the police and the labour department of Telangana, and the rescue of nearly 400 children, has to be sustained until the last child is freed. It is learnt that all efforts are being made by the state government to repatriate these children, most of whom are from Bihar," he said on Sunday.
Dattatreya said that the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment would follow up on this process, and would convene an inter-state meeting to work out a time-bound plan to prevent child trafficking.
At the same time it would enable coordinated action between Bihar and Telangana to rehabilitate every child who had been trafficked.
"We understand that this is to be done with a sense of urgency. Our government is fully committed to see that every child enjoys his/her right to education, and that there is an end to child labour in the Hyderabad and in India as a whole," he said. (INN)
