As tensions prevailed in Warangal, on the eve of the TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu's padayatra for farmers, the police arrested a local legislator Vinay Bhaskar and other Telangana activists.
The Telangana JAC responded to the arrest with the call for a bandh.
Police also arrested the TRS District Convenor, P Sudarshan Reddy, and others. The police took the MLA into custody while he was addressing a press conference to stall Chandrababu Naidu's padayatra.
The TRS has stated that it will oppose Naidu's padayatra until he makes his stance on the Telangana issue clear.
Former MP Vinod Kumar said that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is using police force to dilute the agitation against the yatras of Naidu and Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, while, at the same time, sponsoring them.
In an act of protest, condemning the arrest of Vinay Bhaskar, the Telangana activists and JAC have called for a Warangal bandh, to which all unions and associations have extended their support.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against Telugu Desam Telangana Forum convenor Errabelli Dayakar Rao, at the Subedar Police Station, for his provocative speeches ahead of Naidu's visit.
The TRS farmers wing has also lodged a complaint against Errabelli Dayakar Rao and sought his arrest for his inflammatory speeches.(INN)
