Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, on Wednesday, said that the CBI's seizure of Sakshi's bank accounts in connection with the case of Jagan's alleged illegal assets was not a violation of the freedom of press.
Addressing an election campaign in Guntur, Naidu said that Jagan, who, he said, built a media empire with his black money, could not seek refuge under "press freedom".
Accusing Jagan of taking shelter under the freedom of press to get immunity from impending criminal proceedings, he asked whether Bhanu Kiran, who allegedly murdered factionist Maddelacheruvu Suri, can claim immunity after floating a newspaper.
Contending that the probing agency had seized the accounts of Sakshi as part of its investigation, Naidu said that the issue was not connected with the freedom of press. He reminded Jagan that the CBI had seized accounts of the DMK's Kalaignar TV in connection with the party's involvement in the 2G spectrum scam.
Reiterating that the TDP has fighting against the alleged corruption by former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and his family members for a long time, Naidu said that the situation would not have come to such a state if the Congress had responded to his protests at the right time.
Naidu said that the YSR government had given away all government land to the private sector in name of Special Economic Zones, and that he had even targeted the land of poor farmers.
The TDP president said that the TDP was all poised to win a majority of seats in the ensuing by-elections. As part of its effort to give the Kapu community prominence, Naidu said that the TDP has earmarked 2 MLAs and one MLC seat in Guntur for the community. (INN)
