Centre Can't Buy Entire Paddy Of States: Piyush Goyal
The union agriculture minister said that the Centre followed some procedures to procure food grains from the states, and did not buy based on their produce.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal today said that the Centre could not procure the entire paddy produce of the various states.
He informed Parliament of this during a debate on the issue through a written reply.
The minister said that the Centre followed some procedures to procure food grains from the states, and did not buy based on their produce.
Depending upon the market, MSP, quality and other factors, the Centre, through the FCI, would procure stocks from a state, Goyal said.
Both paddy and wheat would be procured as per norms stipulated, the minister said.
Meanwhile, TRS MP Keshava Rao (KK) met Goyal and sought an appointment for a team of four ministers from Telangana. The minister said that he would look into the issue as he was busy with the Parliament session and other schedules.
Rao said that the ministers would meet with Goyal on Thursday afternoon on the paddy issue.
"The Centre has to get the stocks from our state, and there is no other go," KK said.
The state government has been lashing out at the Centre for not buying its paddy stocks.
