The Centre today clarified that it had written a letter to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on the paddy procurement issue.
In a written reply in Parliament, the Centre said that it had already given its version on the issue.
"The Centre promised to take 40 lakh metric tons, and the Telangana government urged it to increase it. KCR wrote to the Centre to increase the paddy to be procured to 90 lakh metric tons. The Centre has already procured more stocks than promised. We will take steps on the demand to increase the amount procured at an appropriate time. The Centre will focus on farm yield, market surplus and area of cultivation in the various states to take a call whether to increase or decrease the stocks to be procured," the Centre said.
