Celebrate Sep 17 As Hyderabad Liberation Day: BJP

Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy called upon the people to participate in the Telangana Liberation Day being organized by the party across the State.
Hyderabad | 16th September 2015
Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy today called upon the people to participate in the "Telangana (Nizam) Liberation Day" being organized by the party across the State on September 17 in protest against the atrocities during the erstwhile Nizam rule.

Speaking to mediapersons at the State party office on Wednesday, Reddy condemned the indifferent attitude of the TRS government, which had failed to announce the day as Hyderabad Liberation Day.

He pointed out that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had criticized the earlier Congress government for not celebrating the Hyderabad Liberation Day on September 17 officially, but after wresting power on the Telangana sentiment, failed to do the same himself.

He alleged that KCR was insulting Telangana martyrs by not celebrating the Liberation Day officially. He recalled that the martyrs of Telangana had courageously opposed the oppressive rule of the Nizam as the razakars, the Nizam's private army, had raped womenfolk and massacred many people in the Telangana and Marathwada regions.

Though the entire country had celebrated Independence Day on August 15, 1947, the people of the Telangana region, which was under the Nizam's rule, could not do so, Reddy said. Due to stiff resistance from the heroic people and Indian Army, the Nizam finally agreed to merge Hyderabad into the Indian Union.

Reddy asked KCR if he was supporting the atrocities of erstwhile Nizam's army and praising his rule by abstaining from celebrating September 17.

Reddy said that his party would celebrate the Liberation Day from the booth level to the State level, and that the national flag would be hoisted everywhere.

Since September 17 this year was also Vinayaka Chaturthi, he said that the people of Telangana should unfurl the national flag even at Ganesh pandals.
