In a politically significant development ahead of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's visit to Nagarkurnool district today, Jadcherla Municipal Chairperson Koneti Pushpalatha, who was affiliated with the BRS, joined the Congress.
She was joined by BJP councillors Chava Nagaraju and Lalitha, and BRS councillor Gunda Umadevi, signalling a broader shift in the local political alignments.
The leaders were formally inducted into the Congress during a ceremony held at the Chief Minister's residence in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. The CM welcomed them by draping them in party scarves. Jadcherla MLA Anirudh Reddy was also present during the occasion.
The defections come at a time when the Congress is actively consolidating its base in the southern districts. The defections of local leaders to the Congress is being seen as a strategic boost for the party, especially in view of the upcoming municipal elections and the efforts to expand its grassroots presence across the State.
