Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy came down heavily on BRS Medak MP candidate P Venkatramireddy Reddy, alleging that the latter had caused a lot of trouble to the farmers whose lands were taken "forcibly" for the Mallanna Sagar and Ranganayak Sagar irrigation projects.
Venkatramireddy Reddy, a former IAS officer, had worked as the Siddipet district Collector and also in other capacities in the erstwhile Medak district during the BRS regime.
Addressing a corner meeting at Medak on Saturday, the Chief Minister alleged that when Venkatrami Reddy was the Collector he had worked as a henchman for former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao and former minister Harish Rao, and harassed the farmers to acquire their lands in the name of the irrigation projects.
"The BRS candidate has no right to seek votes in the Lok Sabha elections as nothing good happened to the people of Medak during the ten years of BRS rule. The people should teach a fitting lesson to him in the election," Revanth Reddy said.
"For 25 years from 1999 to 2024, the Medak Lok Sabha constituency was in the hands of the BJP and the BRS. Neither of the two parties did anything for the district, and whatever industrial units exist were brought by the previous Congress governments," he claimed.
The Chief Minister also accused BJP candidate Raghunandan Rao of failing to bring funds from the Centre, and alleged that the latter never asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant funds for the Telangana.
"We will all take a bus and come to the Dubbaka Assembly constituency. Show us the funds that you have brought from the Centre and show us the development you made in the district as an MLA," Revanth Reddy asked Raghunandan Rao.
He also reiterated that he would take responsibility for getting agricultural loans to farmers of upto Rs 2 lakh waived off by August 15, and of giving a bonus of Rs 500 per quintal for the paddy crop from the next farming season.
