Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today said that his party would contest in the upcoming Maharashtra Parishad elections, and urged the people of the State to cast their vote in favour of the BRS candidates.
Addressing the first public meeting of the BRS outside Telangana at the Guru Govind Singh grounds in Nanded of Maharashtra on Sunday after the entry of BRS into national politics, Rao said that farmers in Maharashtra were in dire straits and were committing suicides due to failing to get good remuneration for their produce.
Despite many rivers passing through Maharashtra, a drought-like situation prevailed across the State, KCR said. There was no irrigation facility for the farming community, people were still facing an acute shortage of drinking water, and there was no power supply. Even after 75 years of independence, successive governments could not fulfill the basic needs of people, KCR lamented.
"The BRS has entered the national politics with a slogan of Ab Ki Baar, Kisan Sarkar. If the people of India give us a chance, the Telangana development model will be replicated across the country through optimum utilisation of available natural resources," KCR claimed.
KCR said that when Telangana was formed, it faced problems similar to what Maharashtra and other States were now facing with regard to irrigation, drinking water and power supply.
"But we have overcome all the problems by constructing irrigation projects and initiating various schemes for farmers. Now Telangana is able to supply irrigation water to fields, 24x7 power supply to all the sectors and potable drinking water to all the households. Besides, farmers are getting an investment assistance under the Rythu Bandhu scheme and insurance coverage under the Rythu Beema scheme. If the Kisan Sarkar comes to power at the Centre, these schemes will be implemented across the country," KCR said.
The Telangana CM said that the BRS was going to play a vital role in national politics, and exuded confidence that the Kisan Sarkar would change the face of nation in the days to come.
A large number of leaders from Nanded and other parts of Maharashtra joined the BRS during the meeting.
