BRS president and former CM K Chandrashekar Rao today said that during the BRS regime, Telangana had grown into the no 1 State in the country in grain production, and that due to lack of irrigation waters crops were drying up in the State now.
"Why did this situation arise in the State in such a short time?" he asked.
KCR was speaking during a tour of various mandals in Jangaon and Suryapet districts on Sunday.
He said that the BRS team had inspected the dry crop fields in Jangaon, Yadadri and Suryapet districts. "In many places, the farmers were in teaRs They have invested and suffered losses, and are begging for adequate compensation. The farmers complained that they had planted their crops because the government had earlier said that it would give water, but after sowing the crops they were forced to suffer losses as the promised water supply was not given," KCR said.
He said that the previous BRS government had made some clear policies and taken steps with the intention that the State would be good only if the farmer was good. "One was to supply water to the farmers through several methods, the second was to provide timely investment assistance to the farmers through the Rythu Bandhu program, the third one was to provide uninterrupted supply of quality electricity for the supply of irrigation water, the fourth was to set up procurement centres across the State and buy crops, and the fifth was to provide farmers insurance in case of any untoward incident. In this way, the BRS government had implemented wonderful policies," he said. "However, the Congress government with its lop-sided election-oriented policies has undone all that good work, and now the poor farmers are paying the price."
