A delegation from the BRS led by former minister and senior MLA Harish Rao met Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C Sudharshan Reddy today to lodge a complaint alleging blatant violations of the Model Code of Conduct by the Congress to influence the Jubilee Hills by-election.
The delegation demanded the immediate deployment of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to ensure the conduct of free and fair elections.
After submitting the complaint at BRK Bhavan, Rao told reporters that the Congress was distributing over one lakh sarees, mixer grinders, liquor and cash, among other inducements, to lure voters.
Rao said that the BRS had also submitted evidence of fake voter IDs and objected to a polling booth being located adjacent to the Congress office in Yousufguda.
"We have submitted photographic and video evidence to the Election Commission regarding these violations," he said.
He also accused certain officials on election duty of misusing their authority to favour the ruling party, and alleged that despite multiple complaints lodged through the C-Vigil app and local police stations, no action had been taken.
"Some officers have become mere instruments of the ruling party. Even in the face of clear violations, election officials remain silent," he said.
The BRS leader urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to deploy Central forces at sensitive polling booths, appoint women police personnel, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, and enforce strict voter ID verification to prevent bogus voting.
Questioning Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's sudden revival of the Congress government's six guarantees, Rao claimed that the CM had ignored them for nearly two years and was now recalling them only out of fear of losing in Jubilee Hills. The BRS MLA also said that the people of Telangana had however seen through the Congress' failed strategies, and would give their verdict at the polling booth.
