BRS Lok Sabha floor leader Nama Nageswara Rao today lambasted the union government for "failing to fulfill the promises made to Telangana under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act".
Addressing the Lok Sabha during the no-confidence motion, Rao said that during the last nine years, Telangana had needed to spend huge money to extend drinking water to all households under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme and irrigation to huge tracts of agricultural lands under the Mission Kakatiya scheme, and had completed the construction of the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project, but the union government had failed to extend any financial assistance to the State for any of these expensive initiatives despite repeated requests.
Alleging that the Centre was discriminating against Telangana in the allocation of funds and projects, the BRS MP claimed that the Centre had not sanctioned a single medical college or Navodaya school to the State, and had in addition utterly failed to fulfill any of the promises of the AP Reorganization Act.
Rao also found fault with the statement of BJP MP Nishikant Dubey that the union government had sanctioned Rs 86,000 crore for the construction of the Kaleshwaram project in Telangana, and said that Dubey's statement was completely false, and was misleading Parliament as well as the nation.
The BRS even moved a privilege motion against Dubey under Rule 222 accusing him of deliberately misleading the Lok Sabha regarding the Kaleshwaram project.
