BJP Demands All-Party Meet On Hussain Sagar Issue
The party said at a time when the state was unable to provide drinking water to Hyderabad, it was stupid to even imagine refilling the lake with fresh water.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded an all-party meeting to discuss the proposal of the Telangana government to drain out the Hussain Sagar lake.
Speaking to media persons in the Assembly premises, BJP floor leader Dr K Lakshman strongly opposed the proposal and said that many localities in the Musheerabad Assembly constituency, which he represents, would be affected if polluted water was drained out of the lake.
He also ridiculed the state government's proposal to construct a Vinayak Sagar near the Indira Park for the immersion of Ganesh idols.
Referring to the objections raised by Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL), an NGO, Lakshman said that the government should take the view of experts before taking any steps like completely draining out the Hussain Sagar.
He said that at a time when the state government was unable to provide drinking water to the citizens of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, it was ridiculous to even imagine refilling the Hussain Sagar lake with fresh water.
The BJP leader threatened massive agitations if the state government failed to drop its proposal. (INN)
