Bharatiya Janata Party state president G Kishan Reddy, on Saturday, said that the party would contest the next by-election in 18 Assembly constituencies, on the Telangana plank.
Talking to media persons at the state party office in Nampally, Kishan Reddy claimed that a majority of people in the Seemandhra region are also in favour of bifurcation.
He said that the BJP wants to encash the sentiment and go to the by-polls on the same agenda.
Kishan Reddy asked the people of the region to rebut the "malicious" campaigns of the Telugu Desam Party and the Congress, that the Telangana agitation was diluted.
He said that students in the region were committing suicides following the Centre's inordinate delay in announcing a decision on Telangana statehood.
He appealed to the students' community not to lose hope, and to fight for statehood until the formation of Telangana.
He also referred to the BJP's
Telangana Bharosa Yatra to be launched on 16 April from Mahabubnagar district under the Yuva Morcha.
If the Congress-led UPA government fails to announce the formation of a Telangana state by 2014, the BJP would move a bill on Telangana in Parliament if it comes to power in the next elections, said Kishen Reddy. (INN)
