A day after the Congress High Command appeared to have clearly veered towards the formation of Telangana carved out of Andhra Pradesh, leaders from the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions have intensified efforts to prevent the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
A delegation comprising Union ministers and MPs from the Seemandhra region called on Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at the latter's residence, requesting him not to divide the State.
Union ministers Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, K Chiranjeevi, M M Pallam Raju and D Purandeshwari, and MPs K Bapiraju and Anantarami Reddy, were part of the delegation.
They told the Prime Minister that the formation of Telangana would lead to a series of new problems for the country.
It may be mentioned that the Congress Core Committee which met at the Prime Minister's residence on Friday under the chairmanship of Congress President Sonia Gandhi has reportedly decided to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.
However, the decision is likely to be made official only after the next meeting of Congress Working Committee (CWC), likely to be held next month. (INN)
