The Telangana BJP ridiculed IAS officer and Jagityal District Collector Sharath for bending over to touch Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's feet to seek his "blessings" during the Chief Minister's Republic Day speech, and called it a great insult to the IAS cadre and unbecoming of a civil servant.
In a statement on Friday, State BJP President Krishna Saagar Rao said that the IAS officer, by his own statement, lowered the dignity of the esteemed rank of IAS cadre.
The officer's statement also shows the level to which an administrative officer would stoop to be in good books of those in power, he said and added that it was nothing but sycophancy.
"It's evident by the District Collector's discourse how ineffective the State's governance was, being purely driven by the whims and fancies of those in power. Instead, the administrative officers could play their roles with sincerity and honesty to the people, he stated and added that it was undignified to touch a political leader's feet.
