Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar today condemned the decision of the State government to not hold the ceremonial Republic Day celebrations at the Secunderabad Parade grounds this year.
Describing the government's decision as undemocratic and against the spirit of the Constitution, Sanjay said that it amounted to insulting Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution.
"It's a clear case of conspiracy to curtail the Constitutional responsibilities of the Governor," he added.
Sanjay said that the K Chandrashekar Rao government had not been extending the protocol that the Governor was entitled to for a long while now, starting with denying her the opportunity to address the joint session of the State legislature before the commencement of the budget session.
"KCR has utter contempt for women. That is why he has been humiliating the woman Governor time and again. People should ask themselves how a Chief Minister who cannot respect a woman in the highest Constitutional position in the State will implement 35% reservations for women," he said.
Sanjay added that the people were laughing at the government saying that it could not celebrate Republic Day this year at the Parade Grounds due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"It is shameful that the restrictions in the name of the coronavirus are applicable only to Republic Day celebrations, and not for the public meetings of the Chief Minister and his ministers," he said.
The BJP president said that the purpose of the Republic Day celebrations was to convey the message that we were living in a democratic country, and not in a monarchic and dynastic regime.
"But KCR, who is ruling the State like a monarch, is conspiring to deprive the people of the knowledge about the greatness of the Indian Constitution," he alleged. "KCR doesn't believe in democracy or the Constitution. He wants to implement only the Kalvakuntla Constitution in the State. That is why he is advocating abolition of the institution of the Governor and rewriting of the Constitution."
Sanjay called upon the people to be wary of KCR, who he claimed was dangerous to the entire country, and fight to uphold the spirit of the real Constitution drafted by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
