Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu has demanded that the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the rising incidents of crimes against women.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Venkaiah Naidu said that the Centre has confined itself to making statements and hollow promises. However, he said, no concrete step was taken after the Delhi gang-rape case to prevent the recurrence of such cases across the country. Stating that speedy trials and stern punishment for culprits could prevent such incidents, he demanded that moral science be included in the syllabus to educate students against committing such heinous crimes.
While complimenting the governments of Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh on proposing to frame stringent laws for crimes against women, he demanded that the Centre convene a special session of Parliament to discuss this issue.
The BJP leader also slammed the Centre for approving the Visa of former Pakistan cricketer Javed Miandad, who is also related to gangster Dawood Ibrahim. (INN)
