BJP Telangana president and MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar today condemned the decision of the state government to hike the power tariffs.
He said that the TRS-led state government had hiked the power tariff as it was confident of losing in the next Assembly elections.
He alleged that the state government had failed to recover electricity dues from the residents of the old city, and was now burdening the residents of the entire state to make up for it. He said that the old city of Hyderabad owed Rs. 4,603 crores to the electricity supply companies.
He also alleged that the state government had not cleared Rs. 48,000 crores in arrears to the power distribution companies - while the consumers of the power distribution companies owed Rs. 17,000 crores to them, the different government departments alone owed Rs. 12,598 crores, he said - and instead of clearing its own mammoth dues to them, the government was making the poor and middle class citizens pay more to plug the losses of the companies.
He said that the BJP would fight till the power hikes were rolled back, and that it would hold state-wide agitations on the issue.
He also claimed that the people of the state would teach a befitting lesson to the TRS-led state government very soon.
