The major activity on the first day of the two-day strike was representatives of different trade unions staging dharnas at Dharna Chowk at Indira Park.
The bandh call was given by multiple trade unions opposing the Trade Unions Bill, 2018, and it was decided to hold it for two days. The employees of several banks also took part in the agitation. The unions have put forth 12 demands before the union government and have urged it to concede them immediately.
A total of 10 major trade unions in the country have extended support to the two-day bandh call. The All-India Kisan Mahasabha also extended its total support. Besides the general public, farmers also took part in the agitation, demanding that the Centre fix Rs 3,500 as monthly unemployment allowance to them.
