BJP MP D Arvind today slammed the TRS-led state government over its decision to oppose the union government's three agricultural laws, and asked Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to explain why the latter was opposed to the same.
Addressing the media at Warangal, the MP claimed that the December 8 Bharat Bandh organised by the state government across the state was rejected by the farmers of the state.
"None of the farmers of the state even took part in the bandh organised by KCR and his government. The protests in Delhi too are not being organised by the farmers but by middlemen who will be at a disadvantage due to the Acts. Those protesting the laws are the ones who are fleecing the farmers. If the farmers really do have problems with the legislations, they can freely contest the same in court," he said.
The BJP leader also expressed his belief that the new laws were a "boon" to the agrarian community in the state, claiming that they would eliminate the role of middlemen in the sale of agricultural produce.
Addressing the issue of the dismantling of the MSP system raised by the protestors, he claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was ready to provide a written promise to the farmers that the new laws would not affect the procurement of crops at their respective support prices, and also assured the farmers that the Centre was ready to hold talks with them to resolve the matter.
However, he asserted that the Centre would not revoke the laws at any cost.
"The new laws have been introduced to help the farming community. The Centre will, therefore, not revoke them. The Telangana BJP will even mount pressure on it to implement them at the earliest," Arvind said.
The MP also warned the TRS government that it would have to face "dire consequences" if it took to the streets again to protest the laws.
"The TRS government should not protest the farm laws again. The BJP will not tolerate this. The government has already seen what the party can do, in the results of the Dubbaka by-election and the GHMC elections," he said.
