The Sant Sevalal Maharaj Jayanti celebrations were held today at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad. BRS working president K T Rama Rao attended the event as the chief guest and paid floral tributes to the portrait of the Sant.
Speaking on the occasion, KTR said that he was happy to participate in the Jayanti celebrations. He said that former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had always upheld the self-respect of the tribal communities, and that KCR had converted thandas of Lambadis, who revered the Sant, into gram panchayats, and that 3,146 new panchayats were formed for their benefit. He said that 3,146 tribal children had become sarpanches in these villages.
KTR also claimed that drinking water facilities were provided to every household in tribal thandas in the BRS regime, and that KCR had also distributed podu pattas to tribal farmers and handed over four-and-a-half lakh acres of land to them in a single day. He also claimed that the BRS government had established hundreds of Gurukul schools for the education of tribal children.
KCR had also increased job reservations for tribal youth and introduced the CMST Entrepreneurship Program for tribal entrepreneurs, provided lakhs of rupees as government subsidies, granted overseas scholarships to Banjara students, and allotted land for Banjara Bhavans in every district where buildings were also constructed, he said. He assured the Banjaras that he would continue to stand by them in the coming days.
KTR also took the opportunity to slam the Union and the State governments for "conspiring to weaken" the Singareni Collieries company, and said that he would make all possible efforts to protect it.
