Secunderabad MP Bandaru Dattatreyya on Saturday slammed GHMC officials for being negligent in the implementation of developmental schemes in the city.
Participating in a debate in the GHMC General Body meeting on the implementation of the SC/ST Sub-Plan, Dattatreyya said that there was no accountability on the part of the officials.
He said that almost all the 1,800 slums in the city lacked safe drinking water, drainage, sanitation, better roads and other basic facilities.
He said that the Rs. 300 crores that had been sanctioned under the SC/ST Sub-Plan for the city slums remained unutilised.
Dattatreyya claimed that the United Kingdom government had agreed to sponsor a Rs 800-crore slum-free-city project. However, the project remained unimplemented for the last one decade.
He asked Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain to check the accountability of officials to ensure that all the funds that were meant for the city's development were utilised properly.
He said that the mere utilisation of the sanctioned funds would free Hyderabad from poverty and slums.
The BJP MP also assured to liaison with the Central government on the financial assistance needed for the GHMC areas. (INN)
