City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma on Monday imposed Section 144 in the city in view of the anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid on December 6.
In a notification, the Commissioner claimed that he has received reliable information that certain groups were trying to affect public peace and order in Hyderabad, inciting communal animosity between different communities in connection with the anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid.
He said that to maintain public order, peace and tranquility in Hyderabad, Section 144 was being imposed in the limits of the city, except in places those expressly permitted by the police.
He said that every kind of procession, dharna, rally or public meetings in the city are prohibited now. Any individual or groups of individuals are prohibited from making any speech or gesture, or displaying pictures, symbols, placards or flags that are likely to create religious animosity or hatred between different communities or individuals, or likely to cause disturbance to public peace and order.
Sharma warned that any person violating the above orders shall be liable for prosecution under the law.
The prohibitory orders under Section 144 will remain in force from December 5 to December 8. (INN)
