The Telangana Assembly on Tuesday condoled the death of deceased Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Lasya Nanditha, who died in a road accident on the Outer Ring Road near Patancheru on February 23.
Nanditha, the daughter of former long-time Cantonment legislator G Sayanna, was a first-time legislator elected from the Bharata Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in the 2023 Assembly elections.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy moved a condolence motion in memory of Nanditha in the Assembly. Reddy, ministers and opposition leaders then recalled the services of Nanditha and former Cantonment MLA Sayanna's family.
The CM spoke about both Sayanna and Nanditha during the session. He said that Sayanna was born in an ordinary family and was highly successful in his political career, serving the people multiple times as an MLA. He recalled that Sayanna was soft-spoken and had maintained friendly relations with everyone irrespective of their political affiliations. The people of the constituency had thus elected Nanditha as the Cantonment MLA after Sayanna passed away, Reddy said, and added that it was unfortunate that she had died in a road accident while so young.
"Sayanna had fought for the merger of the Secunderabad cantonment area with the GHMC. Unfortunately, he was not among us when the GHMC and Cantonment merged. Lasya would also have been happy if she were alive. Sayanna and Lasya were no longer with us, but they will remain in our hearts forever," the Chief Minister said.
He said that the State government would take forward the ambitions of Sayanna and Lasya, and fulfill their aspirations in the days to come.
Later, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar adjourned the House to Wednesday.
