AP Urges Governor To Stop Srisailam Generation
Andhra Pradesh expressed serious apprehensions that both States would face severe water scarcity if Telangana continued generation at the Srisailam Project.
The Andhra Pradesh Government on Sunday expressed serious apprehensions that both the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh would face severe scarcity of water for irrigation and drinking in the near future if the Telangana government continued power generation at the Srisailam Project.
Speaking to media persons after submitting a memorandum to the Governor E S L Narasimhan at the Raj Bhavan, AP irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheshwar Rao said that the standing crops spread across several thousand acres would be lost if the power generation continued.
Stating that the Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam dams needed 73 TMC water, he said that nearly 70,000 cusecs of water were getting released into the sea due to the ongoing power generation.
He said that no other State would provide water for irrigation and drinking in case the States both faced severe scarcity in the future.
Devineni told the Governor said that Telangana Government had rejected the offer made by AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to provide 300 MW of power, and went ahead with power production at the Srisailam Project.
He requested the Governor to immediately intervene into the matter to stop the Telangana Government from generation power.
He was accompanied with senior officials of his department. (INN)
