More than 11 years after the Alipiri blast, the High Court on Thursday convicted 3 accused of attempting to assassinate TDP president Chandrababu Naidu.
Naidu, the then Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh, his ministerial colleague B Gopalakrishna Reddy and two other MLAs were injured when their convoy was targeted with a claymore mine blast at Alipiri in 2003.
The Chief Minister was proceeding to participate in the Tirumala Srivari Brahmotsavalu celebrations.
The court sentenced Rammohan Reddy, Narasimha Reddy alias Rajashekhar, and M Chandra alias Keshavulu, to 4 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500 each.
They were among the 33 persons originally accused in the case.
The accused were found guilty under Sections 307 and 107 A of IPC. (INN)
