Former MLA Jeevan Reddy of the BRS, who represented the Armur Assembly constituency, today received relief from the Supreme Court, which granted him anticipatory bail in a case related to the encroachment of private land and unauthorised construction in Moinabad mandal.
It is known that the Telangana High Court had earlier dismissed Reddy's petition in the Moinabad land case and directed him to fully cooperate with the police investigation.
Reddy had challenged the High Court's order in the Supreme Court.
The apex court heard his petition today. Reddy's counsel informed the court that the former MLA's family members had already been granted bail in the same case.
A bench headed by Justice Pardiwala eventually delivered an order granting anticipatory bail, but said that Reddy needed to fully cooperate with the police during the investigation.
The court also said that investigating officers were free to take appropriate action if Reddy failed to cooperate.
For the unversed, a landowner named Sama Damodar Reddy had lodged a complaint with the police accusing Reddy of encroaching on 114 acres of land in Mokila. As a result, cases were registered against Reddy under various sections at the Mokila and Chevella police stations. A case has also been registered against Reddy's wife and mother at the Chevella police station in connection with the encroachment.
