Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan today released a special postal cover brought out by India Post on the occasion of International Yoga Day at a program held at the Raj Bhavan.
In a message issued on the occasion, the Governor said, "Yoga is a 5,000-year-old tradition that originated in our country that combines physical, mental, and spiritual pursuits to achieve harmony of the body and mind. On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as International Yoga Day at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This day is special as it coincides with the Summer solstice which is the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. Therefore, the day is uniquely significant in many parts of the world."
Harichandan added, "The theme of this year's International Yoga Day is 'Yoga for well-being'. The theme is especially relevant in the present times as society is still recovering from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. I would like to take this chance to remind people to stay at home in order to protect themselves from Covid-19. Further, the regular practice of Yoga will help us all maintain good health."
He appealed to the people of Andhra Pradesh to make the regular practice of Yoga a part of their lives as it helped in the well-being of families.
AYUSH Commissioner Col V Ramulu, AP Circle Chief Post Master General Dr M Venkateswarlu, Joint Secretary to Governor A Shyam Prasad, and PS to Governor B C Behera were among those who attended the function.
