YSRC is the party of the future, declares the YSR Congress, after its spectacular victory in the 12 June by-elections.
Calling its performance in the by-polls the people's victory, the YSR Congress, on Friday, demanded that the Congress seek a fresh mandate, as the verdict has "clearly indicated the will of the people".
"YSRC is the party of the future, as both the Congress and the TDP were rejected in the people's court despite the misuse of money power and muscle power. Although the 2 parties worked in tandem, their candidates lost deposits at many places, which is an indication of the changing political scenario in the days to come and the important role our party will be playing in the days to come," party spokespersons Ambati Rambabu, Vasireddy Padma, Gattu Ramachandra Rao and Janak Prasad told reporters.
"Although it is unfortunate that our leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is not amongst us at this happy hour, we will continue to take forward the ideals of YSR, and the people's verdict reflects that people are with Jagan," they said, adding that in the coming days YSRC would be a force to reckon with.
Winning 15 out of 18 Assembly seats shows that people are vexed with the Congress and the TDP, they said, adding that the unholy nexus between the ruling and the opposition parties came to the fore at Ramachandrapuram and Narsapuram where the TDP lost deposits and transferred its votes to the Congress.
"Parakala was a graceful defeat, and Konda Surekha's wafer-thin margin of defeat proves that the YSRC has a strong base in the Telangana region. The Congress, which lost its deposit, helped the TRS win, but Surekha's defeat is a moral victory for the YSRC," they said.
They added, "The victory in Tirupati shows that the Chiranjeevi factor did not work, as the YSRC wrested the seat by a margin of over 18,000, which is much more than what the film-star-turned politician achieved."
"YSRC gained both PRP seats Allagadda and Tirupati, while the majority in the Nellore Lok Sabha seat clearly shows what is in store for the Congress and the TDP in the days to come," they said.
Of the 41 by-polls that were conducted after YSR's death, the TDP has failed to win even a single seat, while the Congress, with its nexus with the TDP, could win 2 seats, they said.
Earlier, the party's honorary secretary Y S Vijayamma and her family members met Y S Jaganmohan Reddy at Chanchalguda jail. Later, speaking to reporters, she said, "The people are with us along with God's grace. The majority that our candidates have achieved at various places shows the popularity of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and YSRC." (INN)
