Another government residential school student of the Imampeta SC Residential School, studying in Class X, committed suicide today, within a week of the suicide of an Intermediate student studying in the same Gurukul School.
The girl took the extreme step at her residence in Burkacharla village of Mothe mandal of Suryapeta district.
The girl has been identified as Asmita (15), daughter of Irugu Anand and Jyoti.
Asmita was studying in Class X in the Imampeta SC Gurukul School. She came to her village on February 10 following the suicide of Vaishnavi, the Intermediate student who was studying in the same Gurukul School.
Asmita came to her house on sick leave and took the extreme step.
Reacting to the incident, BRS MLC Kavitha said that it was sad that another student of the same school had committed suicide. In a post on X, she asked the government what was happening in the Telangana Social Welfare Schools, and why the students were committing suicides frequently.
She alleged that the absence of a full-fledged social welfare minister meant that the government was unable to address many such issues, and urged the government to immediately appoint a full-time social welfare minister and start arranging for the counselling of the students.
