Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today inaugurated the Common Diet Plan initiative across all government hostels and Gurukuls in the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy asserted that his government was working resolutely towards comprehensive education system reforms and the enhancement of educational standards.
He said that the previous BRS government had not adequately prioritized diet, cosmetics and infrastructure within the government schools, and that his government had significantly increased allocations for diet and cosmetics in a single decisive move.
"Allocation for diet has been raised by 40% and for cosmetics by 200%, taking into account rising prices and the consequent challenges being faced by students. This marks the first time in the nation's history that such a significant increase has been implemented," he said.
He also directed officials to set up Mess Management Committees involving students to empower them to monitor the quality of the food that they consumed daily.
The CM also said that the government was focusing on upgrading the students' skills to make them active partners in the reconstruction of the State. "We have upgraded 75 ITIs into Advanced Technology Centres in collaboration with the Tata group, and are providing skill development training to the unemployed through the Young India Skills University, which has become a role model for the country," he said.
He announced that the government was also establishing Young India Integrated Residential Schools in every Assembly constituency, and that these would compete with top private schools.
"Welfare and development are like two eyes for me. Spending on education is not an expenditure but an investment in our children's future. I have instructed officials and elected representatives to visit residential schools two to three days a week. I will also visit the residential schools during every official tour across the State," the CM said.
He also urged teachers to encourage students to excel in extracurricular talents, and that the government was ready to provide the facilities for the necessary training.
The CM warned that stringent action would be taken against those who failed to perform their duties.
