Telangana Political Joint Action Committee Convenor Prof. M Kodandaram on Friday demanded that the Centre take a clear decision on the formation of a separate Telangana state by August 1.
Talking to media persons after submitting a strike notice to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at his Camp Office, along with employee union leaders, Kodandaram said that the Telangana leaders had appealed to the CM to mount pressure on the Centre over the carving out of a separate state from Andhra Pradesh.
He said that the Centre must honour the promise made by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Dec 9, 2009, on Telangana.
Warning the government of serious consequences in the event of an unfavourable decision, he set a deadline of August 1, for the Centre to abide by.
Kodandaram said the government would be held responsible for serious consequences if it fails to honour the decision on Telangana.
He said that all party leaders, employees, students and all sections of people from the region will intensify their agitation for statehood from August 1, and paralyse the administration in the region, if the Centre fails to take any decision on the issue.
However, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said the decision on Telangana would have to be taken by the Centre, and that it was not in his hands.
