The membership drive of the Pradesh Congress Committee will be launched on October 18 at Gandhi Bhavan.
Speaking to media persons, PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana said that the membership drive would be launched in the presence of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, former Chief Ministers, former presidents of the PCC and other leaders.
"Unlike in the past where the membership was of three types, this year, there will be a single category of membership. Last year, the party had set a target of enrolling 40 lakh members. But this year, no such target has been set," he said.
The PCC chief also said that there were strong indications of a reshuffle in the Union cabinet in the next two to three days. He said that the PCC has also sent in recommendations of a few names for their induction into the cabinet. However, he refused to disclose the names of those MPs.
Botsa Satyanarayana condemned the denial of Telangana journalists' entry into the global biodiversity conference when they had gone to cover Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's program on Tuesday. He said that it was alright to restrict individuals for valid reasons, but that targeting media organisations was "intolerable".
He said that he would speak to the police officials concerned about the incident and ensure that such things do not recur. (INN)
