On Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party flayed the state government for using false propaganda in the Amma Hastham program.
The Amma Hastham scheme entails the distribution of nine essential commodities in packets, priced at Rs. 185 each, to white card holders in the state. The state government claimed that this scheme will help households with limited means of income, to cope with inflation of prices.
"Though the government is claiming that it is giving nine items for Rs. 185 and that the subsidy component is Rs. 107, in reality, the cost of the nine commodities is Rs. 210, and the subsidy is just Rs. 25", BJP state president G Kishan Reddy told reporters.
"The cost of the packing material per bag is going up to Rs. 38.50, and there are many irregularities in the contract of the printing process of the bags", he said.
G Kishan Reddy also alleged that the state is spending more on publicity than on the actual subsidy. This allegation is one in a series of allegations against the Amma Hastham scheme,
like the one made by Y S Vijayamma. (INN)
