Calling the recently introduced Amma Hastam scheme by the Kiran Kumar Reddy led Congress government "Maya Hastam", YSR Congress honourary president Y S Vijayamma alleged that the government has neglected public welfare and kept welfare schemes aside.
Addressing a large gathering of people at Addagutta in Secunderabad after participating in a Rachchabanda program and listening to a string of complaints from the locals, mostly women and the aged, on Wednesday, she said that the government is not aware of the suffering of the people.
"As a leader, YSR knew the suffering of the people, and introduced several welfare schemes to mitigate their suffering. He not only introduced the welfare schemes, but also implemented them successfully, as he was sincere," she said.
"The present government, unconcerned about the people's problems, has been imposing new charges and hiking all sorts of taxes, to fill its coffers while neglecting the people's welfare," she said.
Vijayamma said that the Amma Hastam scheme is only a "Maya Hastam" as the government introduced it aiming at votes in the next elections.
"The government is not sincere in its approach, and hence people have already started complaining about it," she said.
The locals complained to her about the inflated power bills and hiked prices of essential commodities. While some people are said to have told her they were not getting pensions, some others reportedly complained that bankers would collect interest of Rs. 30,000 on a loan of Rs. 1 lakh even though the loans were sanctioned under the 25 paisa interest scheme.
Vijayamma assured them that the YSRCP would address all their problems after coming to power. Party leaders Sobha Nagi Reddy, Srisailam and Vijaya Reddy also participated in the Rachchabanda. (INN)
