Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy has described the visit of BJP national president Amit Shah to Telangana as a total "flop show".
Addressing party workers on Wednesday, Reddy said that Shah had failed to draw any response from the broader population of Telangana and remained confined to a few programs orchestrated by the local BJP leaders.
Reddy said that the BJP leader owed an explanation to the people of Telangana for why the BJP government at the Centre totally "neglected" the state.
"Not a single promise made in the Telangana bill has been fulfilled by the NDA government. A railway coach factory in Kazipet, steel factory in Bayyaram of Khammam, tribal university, Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) and other major promised infrastructural facilities remain unfulfilled. No irrigation project in Telangana has been accorded National Project status. The NDA government could not even bifurcate the High Court during the last three years," he said.
"The Centre, along with the TRS government, has also totally neglected the agriculture sector, and remained a mute spectator to the suicides of thousands of farmers in the state. No assistance was extended to the crisis-hit agriculture sector of the state," he added.
"Amit Shah is hoping to replicate the Uttar Pradesh model in Telangana. But the people here will repeat the Punjab, Bihar and Delhi models of rejecting the BJP. The Congress is all set to return to power in the next elections, and neither Shah nor any other leader will be able to reverse the trend even if they stay permanently in Telangana," Reddy claimed.
The TPCC chief also questioned the silence of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao over Shah's claims that Centre had given Rs 1 lakh crores to Telangana.
"While KCR keeps praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah has openly targeted the TRS government for its failures. KCR should give an explanation for his silence unless he has a secret pact with the BJP," he said, claiming that both BJP and TRS were secret partners and were trying to mislead the people through such blame-game politics.
The TPCC chief asked the Congress leaders to ensure the participation of at least 10 workers from each Gram Panchayat in the State in the "Telangana Praja Garjana" meeting to be addressed by AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi at Sangareddy on June 1. He said that Gandhi would release a charge-sheet on the failures of TRS and BJP governments during the last three years. He would also unveil the Congress' plans to take the agriculture and other sectors out of their current crises.
"All Congress workers should feel the responsibility and act to make Rahul Gandhi's meeting a grand success," he said.
AICC secretary R C Khuntia, former minister R Damodar Reddy, DCC president B Bhikshamaiah Goud and others also spoke.
