Amazon To Expand Operations In Telangana
Amazon will set up a warehouse / fulfillment centre in Hyderabad soon, and train the MSME clusters in utilizing the online platforms to boost their businesses.
A delegation from Amazon led by Global Director and Head for Real Estate and Facilities John Schoettler met Telangana Information Technology Minister K T Rama Rao at his chambers in the D-block of the secretariat.
The expansion plans of Amazon in Hyderabad and Telangana were discussed. The following items were agreed upon between the Government of Telangana and Amazon.
1. Amazon will set up a warehouse / fulfillment centre in Hyderabad. Amazon will start its operations from a leased facility in about two months before the own facility is constructed.
2. The state government will extend all incentives to the Amazon facility as per the new industrial policy.
3. Amazon will train the MSME clusters in utilizing the online platforms for boosting their revenues.
The minister requested Amazon to create an online market place for promoting Telangana's handicrafts such as Nirmal artifacts, Pochampalli sarees, Bidriware etc. Amazon responded positively, and an action plan will be worked out for promoting Telangana's art heritage on the Amazon platform.
Schoettler extended an invite to the minister to visit Amazon's Seattle campus, and Rao will consequently be visiting Seattle in the second week of April.
A press meet will be conducted by the Government of Telangana and Amazon in the second week of February, giving out full details of the agreements.
The meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary Pradeep Chandra, IT Secretary Harpreet Singh, TSIIC MD & VC Jayesh Ranjan and Head Facilities Amazon India Narendhar Reddy. (INN)
