Police rained lathis on Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists on Tuesday, as they tried to gherao the Karimnagar and Adilabad district Collectorates, leading to a tense situation for some time.
The ABVP activists were staging a protest, demanding that the government take urgent measures to solve the various problems plaguing the students. The activists demanded that the state government should provide mess facilities to students belonging to SC, ST and OBC categories.
Trouble began when the agitating students tried to barge into the Collectorate's gates, while the policemen resisted this attempt. The unrelenting students refused to give up, leading to an argument with the police.
The ABVP activists' persistent attempts to surge inside the Collectorate premises compelled the police to use their batons.
