Hyderabad | 19th October 2024
Protests organized by Hindu groups demanding strict punishment for those who destroyed the Muthyalamma temple in Secunderabad escalated into violence today.

Hindu religious activists gathered in large numbers around the temple premises to voice their dissent. As Hindu groups moved towards the mosque located behind the temple, fears of communal clashes arose, prompting the police to resort to baton charges. The situation intensified with the charges, resulting in injuries to many Hindu activists.

Leaders of the Hindu religious organizations gathered in large numbers around the temple to protest against the police's actions. Soon, a severe clash broke out between the police and the protesters. The Hindu activists threw slippers, chairs and water packets at the police who were blocking the rally. The police retaliated by beating up those that they caught. Several individuals sustained serious injuries to their heads during the baton charge. A young man named Durga collapsed with a broken left arm due to the charge.

Upon learning of the situation, DCP Rashmi Perumal arrived at the scene. She tried to pacify the protesting Hindu activists. In opposition to the police's stance, leaders and activists chanted "Down Down police" slogans.

Meanwhile, reports indicated that internet services have been suspended in Secunderabad and the surrounding areas to prevent the communal clashes.
