Tension In Gajwel Colony During Harish Rao Campaign

The displaced residents and Congress leaders demanded that Rao be barred from entering the colony, accusing him of injustice during the displacement.
Hyderabad | 7th February 2026
Tension prevailed for some time at the Mallanna Sagar displaced persons' colony in Gajwel town today during former minister Harish Rao's visit to the rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) colony as part of his campaign for the upcoming municipal elections.

As Rao arrived in the area, he was confronted by an organised protest by leaders of the Congress, and BRS workers confrotiong them. The situation soon turned chaotic, with members of both parties raising slogans and some individuals reportedly hurling slippers at one another.

The displaced residents, along with Congress leaders, demanded that Rao be barred from entering the colony, accusing him of injustice during the displacement process.

The police intervened to control the situation and carried out a mild lathi charge to restore order. Following the incident, Rao stayed at the Gajwel MLA's camp office.

A heavy police deployment has been maintained in the area to prevent further disturbances and ensure law and order.
