Dalit Humiliation: Cops Arrest Accused Bharat Reddy
The accused was arrested for attacking and humiliating two dalit youths, a video of which had gone viral, for questioning his role in sand mining.

M Jaya Bharath Reddy, a former BJP member accused of attacking and humiliating two dalit youths in Abhangapatnam of Navipet mandal in Nizamabad district, was finally arrested by the Jubilee Hills police on Monday, after being elusive for almost three weeks.
Acting on a tip-off, the police personnel nabbed Reddy near Kamareddy when he was trying to make an escape to Maharashtra, said Nizamabad Commissioner of Police Kartikeya.
The accused had three cases - under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and two for kidnap charges - against him, said the Commissioner.
It may be mentioned here that the accused had beaten up and humiliated two dalit youths - Lakshman and Rajeshwar - in Abhangapatnam village when they questioned his role in the alleged mining of sand from the village tank.
A video of the incident went viral landing Reddy in a soup. He went underground after dalit organizations across Telangana demanded his immediate arrest and prosecution.
Notably, the arrest comes close on the heels of the orders issued by the National SC Commission member K Ramulu, who called on the families of victims on Saturday.
While announcing the arrest of Reddy, the Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the police officials involved in apprehending him.
