Andhra Pradesh Youth Congress President Vamsi Chandra Reddy on Saturday held the senior leaders of the Telangana Congress responsible for the party's dismal performance in the region in the recent elections.
Addressing a meeting of APYC activists at Gandhi Bhavan, Reddy said that the senior leaders had been confined to a few constituencies, and had not organised a centralised campaign in the region.
He said that the leaders were more interested in securing tickets for their relatives. Later, they had limited themselves to 1 or 2 constituencies, and left the other candidates to their fate.
Vamsi, who won from the Kalwakurthy Assembly constituency by a small margin of 77 votes, said that the Congress High Command took the risk of bifurcating Andhra Pradesh, knowing fully well that it would lose the elections in Seemandhra. However, the Telangana Congress leaders failed to capitalize on their achievement of getting statehood for Telangana due to their own differences.
He demanded that the Congress High Command review the party's performance and find out the reasons that led to the party's defeat.
He said that corrective steps should be taken on an immediate basis to revive the party from the grassroot levels. (INN)
