In a major road accident that took place during the wee hours of Saturday, at least 8 people were killed and 6 others suffered serious injuries on the National Highway no. 9, Ramjol village, Zahirabad mandal in Medak district.
According to Circle Inspector Sridhar Reddy, Mohammed Khurram (25), Ruhina Begum (22), Salma Sultana (25), Mohammed Virasat (24), Aqsa Parveen (9) and Mohammed Mujahed (25) died on the spot, while Shaik Shakeel (20)and Rubina Begum (25) died on their way to hospital.
Shakeel was being shifted to Zahirabad hospital while Rubina Begum died while being shifted to a hospital in Bidar.
The mishap occurred when the Tata Sumo in which they were travelling to Bidar from Shamshabad was hit by a speeding lorry coming from Zahirabad to Hyderabad. The lorry was on the wrong side of the road.
The injured have been identified as Hamed Miya (46), Najma Begum (37), Arbia (3), Mohammed Shujaat (26), Mohammed Parvez (21) and Hannu Miya (40), who were presently undergoing treatment in a hospital at Bidar.
Police registered a case under section 304-A IPC against the lorry driver for rash and negligent driving.
