The 60 She Teams performing silent decoy operations in the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits to protect women from eve-teasers have caught 264 alleged offenders, including 15 minors, during the last three months.
Of the 233 major alleged offenders, 185 were aged between 18 and 30, 33 between 30 and 40, 11 between 40 and 50, and four over 50. Most of the accused are around 20 years old and are students.
Out of a total of 228 cases, 179 were of a petty nature, and 47 FIRs were registered.
According to a statement from the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate, the offenders were all being counselled, many along with their parents, by professional counsellors at the Crime Against Women (CAW) Cell, CPO, Gachibowli. Of the 264 offenders, 50 are in remand.
During the last two weeks, 40 cases have been reported in which 50 alleged offenders have been booked. On Saturday, counselling was held for 41 alleged offenders, and nine of them are cooling their heels in jail.
Most of the eve-teasers have apparently repented their actions and are realizing the necessity of respecting women after an hour of counselling. Parents are also reportedly appreciating the initiative taken by Cyberabad She Teams.
"Half of the complaints are being received through the WhatsApp Citizen Connectivity Program (9490617444), where harrassed women send a small message to which our teams are responding effectively and immediately," the Cyberabad police said.
