Upholding the argument of the prosecution in the Ghazal Srinivas sexual harassment case, the Nampally Criminal Court today rejected the bail petition of the noted singer who has been in judicial custody in connection with a sexual harassment case lodged against him.
The complainant was an employee of the AalayaVani Web Radio run by the SaveTemples Foundation that had instituted the singer as its brand ambassador.
In its judgement stating why it was rejecting the defense counsel's plea for bail, the court said that it concurred with the prosecution's view that the accused might threaten and coach the witnesses if granted bail.
However, the court also took serious exception to the police sending evidentiary CDs of the singer to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) before submitting them to the court for review, and for claiming that accused no 2 in the case, a woman by the name of Parvathi, was absconding.
Expressing its displeasure at the police for their "negligence" in investigating the case, it rejected their plea for police custody of the accused.
The police had filed cases under sections 304, 304A and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of the IPC against Srinivas.
